You will be surprised with the amount of small mistakes that you have done to your resume, unintentionally.

Some common resume mistakes

  1. Too small font. Remember, when applied for a job, your resume will get a 20 second look only. You don’t want the reader to waste the time figuring out what you have written. Make sure what you write is legible
  2. Spelling errors. This gives a very bad impression of you. After all, after all the degrees and education, you are expected to be perfect at language, at least. So, double check your spellings.
  3. Repetitive words. If you repeat the words a lot, it becomes annoying for the reader. So, prove yourself to be good at language and use good vocabulary. Go for synonyms. It’ll improve your information as well give a good impact to the reader.
  4. Leaving out the exact dates. Make sure you provide the reader with enough information that he needs. If you leave out dates, it gives an impression as if you are trying to hide something of which you are uncertain. So, write down maximum dates as possible. It gives your resume a complete look.
  5. Inconsistent layout of the resume. The layout of the resume or its design is the first thing that is noticed when someone gets their hands on the resume.  If you think you want to stand out from the others  then have a good layout of your resume. Properly aligned text, setting margins, using a good font style are necessary steps to create a proper layout. Be careful about the tenses and verbs.
  6. Using words that aren’t your own. Using someone else’s words is displayed when you get the interview call. If our style of speaking does not look compatible with your resume style, it is automatically assumed that you have not written the resume in your own words. So, always write the resume yourself.
  7. Having one version only. It is always a good practice to have more than one versions of your resume. For example if you have command over web designing and logo designing then you can have 2 different resumes, having primary information to be the same but the information related to the skills may differ in each resume, depending upon the emphasize on different aspects of your skills.
