What NOT to put on your Resume

Strong or Strong-willed or Unwavering
This is a short way of staying that you are going to argue with your boss and co-workers. It is a sign that is you “think” you are right, that you are going to be obtuse and stubborn.

Sympathetic
Even though this is a lovely trait to have as a human, it offers no value to a manager of a job, unless the job is in some form of social care.

Tolerant
It seems like a nice trait to have, but has no applicable in the business world, namely because tolerance and acceptance are expected in both society and the work place. It is the same as saying that you will attend work in clothing.

Don’t say that you are Easy-Going
It translates into calling yourself lazy.

Honest and hardworking
Everybody writes this on their resume. It is nothing more than white noise when it comes to applying for a job. Tell them that you are trustworthy and industrious. Tell them that you abide the rules and are self-motivated.

Life of the party
Being charismatic is fine, but should be toned down on you CV. If you truly are charismatic and likable, then it will help you during your interview, but is not a big selling point when writing your CV. It makes it seem like you will spend more time chatting and distracting others, than doing your work. If you must add it into your CV, then say that you are likable. Do not overstate the matter with terms such as “Life of the party”.

I’m a fast learner
“Fast” means skim. It does not conjure images of you absorbing reams of information in a diligent fashion. Instead say that you are learn very well through application. Say that you find many topics easy to pick up and follow. Say that you are an active learner and keen to improve your skills on a daily basis.

I like working
Unless you can give several good reasons why you like to work, then this will sound insincere. It is okay to admit that there are certain parts of your job that you enjoy, but claiming you enjoy work as a whole will seem insincere and false.
