According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics the health care and social assistance sectors are expected to expand by 5.6 million workers. This makes perfect sense as there will naturally be more sick and dependants as the population continues to grow. However make sure you go to college because getting into the well paid healthcare fields without a college degree is not an easy thing.
Construction
Construction is expected to expand by 1.8 million workers, but while this is not a desirable job at the moment the coming out of a recession is bound to cause another boom. The increasing population will make extra buildings necessary which means that construction workers will likely have a steady stream of work once again.
However unlike most other careers, getting started at the bottom of the construction industry is often a dirty and back-breaking job so it certainly is not for the faint hearted. But if you intend to go into architecture then this is another way into the potentially lucrative field of construction work.
Farming
Believe it or not, despite the growth in population the number of farmers and ranchers are expected to fall rapidly at a rate of 96,000 workers in the next decade. The reasons for this are many and varied, but the rapid increase in urbanization could be to blame as well as the increasing focus on imports of food and artificial food.
Federal Government
During the recession, the Federal Government took a big hit and this naturally meant that waste had to be cut. More job losses are expected so the entire work force involved in Federal Government is expected to shrink significantly in the next ten years. No figures exist for how many jobs are expected to go, but with the Federal Government needing to save vast quantities of money job losses are expected to be high.
Manufacturing
One field which appears on most lists of career sectors which are expected to shrink, manufacturing is directly at odds with the ever-increasing accessibility of new technology which only leads to more jobs becoming automated. This rapid mobilization of new technology is only leading to more job losses and the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics has predicted that a 25% decrease is expected in the manufacturing industry.
